James Cameron’s third Avatar movie won’t be called Avatar: The Seed Bearer, according to producer Jon Landau.
Speaking with ComicBook.com at an event promoting the Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora video game, Landau confirmed that Avatar 3’s title won’t be Avatar: The Seed Bearer.
“I’m qualified to tell you that that is not the title for Avatar 3,” Landau said. “That’s what my Wikipedia page says? That is getting changed tonight!”
In November 2018, an article posted by BBC News claimed the titles for Cameron’s upcoming Avatar sequels would be Avatar: The Way of Water, Avatar: The Seed Bearer, Avatar: The Tulkun Rider, and Avatar: The Quest for Eywa.
Cameron addressed the rumored titles when speaking to Entertainment Tonight in February 2019. “I can neither confirm nor deny — all right, here’s what I’ll tell ya,” he said. “Those titles are among titles that are in consideration. And no final decisions have been made yet.”
What else do we know about Avatar 3?
While Cameron has been relatively silent about what Avatar 3 has in store for fans, he told Variety earlier this year that the upcoming sequel will explore “different cultures from those I have already shown. The fire will be represented by the ‘Ash People.’ I want to show the Na’vi from another angle because, so far, I have only shown their good sides.”
“In the early films, there are very negative human examples and very positive Na’vi examples,” he continued. “In Avatar 3, we will do the opposite. We will also explore new worlds, while continuing the story of the main characters. I can say that the last parts will be the best. The others were an introduction, a way to set the table before serving the meal.”
Cameron also said in November 2023 that the movie was in a “very hectic” post-production but that it intends to keep its December 2025 release date.
Starring Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldaña, Sigourney Weaver, Stephen Lang, Giovanni Ribisi, Kate Winslet, Cliff Curtis, and Joel David Moore, Avatar 3 is currently scheduled to release on December 19, 2025.
