Fantastic Four Rumor: Anya Taylor-Joy Considered for MCU Villain

After SAG-AFTRA officially ended its 118-day-long strike, a number of casting rumors about Marvel Studios’ Fantastic Four started circulating online as the search for the highly-anticipated movie’s cast continued. Following reports of Javier Bardem and Mads Mikkelsen’s rumored casting as Galactus and Doctor Doom, another acclaimed actor has been mentioned for a potential villain role in the new Fantastic Four movie.

According to industry scooper Daniel Richtman, Golden Globe winner Anya Taylor-Joy is reportedly being considered to play an unnamed villain character. The Queen’s Gambit star is no stranger to superhero movies, as she previously played the hero Illyana Rasputin/ Magik in 2020’s The New Mutants, which was the X-Men Fox franchise’s final movie. Taylor-Joy is currently slated to lead George Miller’s Mad Max prequel Furiosa.

Who’s Involved With The MCU Fantastic Four?

Marvel Studios’ Fantastic Four will be directed by WandaVision’s Matt Shakman from a screenplay being rewritten by Josh Friedman, based on a draft from Jeff Kaplan and Ian Springer. It was first teased by Kevin Feige during 2019’s San Diego Comic-Con. Spider-Man: No Way Home director Jon Watts was originally slated to direct the project but decided to drop out in order to take a break from the superhero genre.

Official casting for the film hasn’t been announced yet, but The Office alum John Krasinski made his debut as a variant of Reed Richards/Mr. Fantastic in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. At the time of writing, Pedro Pascal (The Mandalorian, The Last of Us) is currently the only actor confirmed to be in negotiations to become the MCU’s official Reed Richards. Before Pascal, Adam Driver, Matt Smith, and Jake Gyllenhaal were reportedly the actors that Marvel considered for Mr. Fantastic.

The film debuts on May 2, 2025, as part of the MCU’s Phase 6.
