More than a week since the theatrical debut of The Marvels, new behind-the-scenes details about Marvel Studios’ latest superhero movie continue to surface online. According to insider CanWeGetSomeToast, there were a couple of plot elements and lines that were ultimately removed from the final cut of The Marvels.
One of these cut lines reportedly confirmed that Brie Larson’s Carol Danvers/Captain Marvel and Tessa Thompson’s Valkyrie had a romantic past with each other. Valkyrie’s scene with Captain Marvel in the movie might have originally included the quote, “We work better as friends.” Since both heroines made their respective MCU debuts, fans have been constantly shipping them together, which previously earned approval from Thompson.
Who’s involved The Marvels?
The Marvels was directed by Nia DaCosta (Candyman) from a screenplay by Megan McDonnell. Leading the movie are Oscar winner Larson as Carol Danvers/Captain Marvel, WandaVision breakout star Parris as Monica Rambeau, and Vellani as Kamala Khan/Ms. Marvel. Additional cast also includes MCU vet Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury, Zawe Ashton as Dar-Benn, and popular South Korean actor Park Seo-Joon, along with Tessa Thompson, Lashana Lynch, and Hailee Steinfeld.
“Carol Danvers aka Captain Marvel has reclaimed her identity from the tyrannical Kree and taken revenge on the Supreme Intelligence,” reads the synopsis. “But unintended consequences see Carol shouldering the burden of a destabilized universe. When her duties send her to an anomalous wormhole linked to a Kree revolutionary, her powers become entangled with that of Jersey City super-fan, Kamala Khan aka Ms. Marvel, and Carol’s estranged niece Captain Monica Rambeau. Together, this unlikely trio must team-up and learn to work in concert to save the universe as The Marvels.”
