Despite the seemingly conclusive ending of John Wick: Chapter 4, the latest John Wick 5 update suggests the sequel is already being written.
As part of Lionsgate‘s quarterly earnings call, which took place late last week, Lionsgate Motion Picture Group Chair Joe Drake casually confirmed that a fifth John Wick movie is already being written.
In fact, the sequel had begun being worked on right around the time of this year’s Writers Guild of America strike, which began on May 2, 2023. Due to the strike, work wouldn’t continue on the film until the strike’s conclusion, which occurred on September 27.
“On the Wick side we got multiple spin-offs and Wick Five,” Drake stated on the call. “We started to work on [it] right when the writer’s strike started and we’ve gotten back to work as soon as it ended,” (via ComicBook.com).
Who wrote the previous movie, John Wick: Chapter 4?
The most recent John Wick movie, John Wick: Chapter 4, released earlier this year. The film was directed by Stahelski from a screenplay co-written by Shay Hatten and Michael Finch, who took over from franchise creator Derek Kolstad. The fourth installment starred Keanu Reeves, Lance Reddick, Ian McShane, Rina Sawayama, Shamier Anderson, Bill Skarsgard, Clancy Brown, Hiroyuki Sanada, and Donnie Yen.
