Euphoria’s Hunter Schafer is open to playing Zelda in the recently announced live-action movie.
On November 7, 2023, Nintendo officially announced it was developing a live-action The Legend of Zelda movie directed by The Maze Runner’s Wes Ball. Since then, many fans have begun dream-casting various roles in the movie, with Schafer as Zelda being one of the more prominent fan castings to appear online.
Per Variety, Schafer spoke on the matter at the London premiere of The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes on November 9, 2023.
“That would be so cool,” she said. “I love the game, personally. I played it as a kid and I still play it now. Who knows! That would be pretty cool.”
What else do we know about the live-action Legend of Zelda movie?
The live-action Legend of Zelda movie will be produced by co-creator Representative Director and Fellow of Nintendo Shigeru Miyamoto, as well as Avi Arad. Following the announcement, Miyamoto tweeted on Nintendo’s account, “I have been working on the live-action film of The Legend of Zelda for many years now with Avi Arad-san, who has produced many mega hit films. I have asked Avi-san to produce this film with me, and we have now officially started the development of the film with Nintendo itself heavily involved in the production. It will take time until its completion, but I hope you look forward to seeing it.”
In addition to The Maze Runner movies, Ball also directed Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes, which hits United States theaters on May 24, 2024. In January 2010, Ball tweeted about a live-action Legend of Zelda movie, saying, “Since I could never even hope to have the chance to direct it… the next big mo-cap Avatar-like movie should be… THE LEGEND OF ZELDA.”
