According to Deadline, Universal Pictures‘ hit animated fantasy movie The Super Mario Bros. Movie will soon be available for streaming on Netflix. Following a successful theatrical run which earned the film over $1 billion at the worldwide box office, the film adaptation of Nintendo’s popular video game series is now set to be released on Netflix starting on December 3, exclusively in the U.S.
Who’s involved in The Super Mario Bros. Movie?
The Super Mario Bros. Movie was directed by Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic (Teen Titans Go!) from a screenplay written by Minions: The Rise of Gru scribe Matthew Fogel. It was produced by Chris Meledandri for Illumination and Shigeru Miyamoto for Nintendo.
The film featured the voices of its all-star cast including Chris Pratt as Mario, Anya Taylor-Joy as Princess Peach, Charlie Day as Luigi, Jack Black as Bowser, Keegan-Michael Key as Toad, Seth Rogen as Donkey Kong, Fred Armisen as Cranky Kong, Kevin Michael Richardson as Kamek and Sebastian Maniscalco as Spike.
Despite receiving mixed reception from critics, the adaptation still became one of this year’s biggest movie releases. So far, it is currently the second highest-grossing movie of 2023, with a worldwide gross of over $1.3 billion at the box office.
