A24 is set to finance and produce writer/director Mark Anthony Green’s debut horror film, Opus.
A Star Is Reborn
Plot details are being kept under wraps for now, but the project is a horror film set around an iconic pop stars’ return following his decades-long disappearance.
The film stars Emmy nominee Ayo Edebiri (The Bear, Bottoms) and Academy Award nominee and Emmy winner John Malkovich. Additional cast includes Emmy winner Murray Bartlett (The White Lotus), Amber Midthunder (Prey), Stephanie Suganami (Power Book II: Ghost), Young Mazino (Beef), and Tatanka Means (Killers of the Flower Moon). Academy Award and Emmy nominee Juliette Lewis (Yellowjackets) is also in talks to join the cast.
The 8-time Grammy Award winner Singer/Songwriter/Producer The-Dream and Grammy award winner songwriter and legend Nile Rodgers will create original songs for the film and serve as executive producers.
Collin Creighton and Brad Weston will produce for Makeready. Poppy Hanks and Jelani Johnson will produce for MACRO Film Studios with Charles D. King as executive producer. Josh Bachove will produce, and Sara Newkirk Simon will executive produce.
The film had received an interim agreement from SAG-AFTRA to continue production during the strikes, which have since come to an acceptable close after agreements were finally made yesterday.
A24 is supposedly branching out from its usual highbrow and low-budget horror avenues and moving into bigger film spaces, so it’s nice to see old habits will die hard in the meantime.
