Actess, comedian, and producer Lisa Ann Walter has slammed Megan Fox for blatantly mocking SAG-AFTRA’s guidelines on Halloween costumes.
Last week, Megan Fox took to Instagram to share a photograph of herself and fiancé Machine Gun Kelly dressed as characters from Quentin Tarantino’s Kill Bill movies. In the photos, she tagged SAG-AFTRA, an obvious reference and call out to the actors union’s recent rules on Halloween costumes, which drew jokes and responses from various actors.
In a response to the costume, Walter took to Twitter to share the photo, and slammed Fox for making light of the guidelines. She pointed that herself and other members of SAG continue to fight “to get basic contract earners a fair deal.”
“What a rebel. Keep posturing for stupid s—, pretty lady,” Walter wrote. “Meanwhile we’ll be working 10 hours a day – unpaid – to get basic contract earners a fair deal.”
Walter also clarified that the union didn’t care about children’s costumes, as Ryan Reynolds joked about last week, but instead professionals who would attend high-profile parties, like Fox did.
What are SAG-AFTRA’s Halloween guidelines?
With Halloween right around the corner, SAG-AFTRA recently updated its guidelines on their official site. In a new post on celebrating Halloween, the union encouraged members to “choose costumes inspired by generalized characters and figures (ghost, zombie, spider, etc.),” and also suggests that people “don’t post photos of costumes inspired by struck content to social media.”
Recently, talks between the union and the AMPTP broke down last week and were suspended. According to reports on the matter, talks broke down after the AMPTP declined SAG-AFTRA’s proposals to share 2% of streaming revenue. Netflix CEO Ted Sarandos acknowledged the reports by noting that the move was a “bridge too far” for the union.
While Sarandos said that the AMPTP had offered the union “a first-of-its-kind success-based residual” plan for subscription-based productions, it doesn’t seem like SAG-AFTRA believed the deal to be good enough. As a result, talks between SAG-AFTRA and the AMPTP have stalled and don’t seem to be ready to continue anytime soon.
