Martin Scorsese Joins Letterboxd, Shares List of Companion Movies

Martin Scorsese has officially joined the movie ranking and review site Letterboxd. To celebrate his arrival on the app, the director has even created a list of companion films to many of his most legendary movies.

Scorsese, whose Killers of the Flower Moon just released this past week, joined the app this week and has already begun logging films that he’s seen, including 1960’s Wild River, 1948’s Blood on the Moon, and 1949’s The Heiress.

Scorsese crafts huge companion list

Alongside a few film entries, Scorsese also crafted a full list of companion films for his work. The list of 59 movies each lists a film that the director believes pairs up with one of this own.

“I love the idea of putting different films together into one program,” wrote Scorsese in a caption on the list. “I grew up seeing double features, programs in repertory houses, evenings of avant-garde films in storefront theatres. You always learn something, see something in a new light, because every movie is in conversation with every other movie. The greater the difference between the pictures, the better.”

Many films, like Killers of the Flower Moon and The Irishman, have a handful of companion films listed. Each also has its own written description as to why Scorsese considers the film to pair well with his own.

The list totals 59 films in all, so if you’re looking for some classics to brush up on, or diving fully into Scorsese’s backlog, this list is a must read.
