Bioshock Movie Update Given by Writer: ‘We’re All Optimistic’

The writer of the Bioshock movie, Michael Green, has given an update about the film and its current status.

In an interview with Collider, Green gave fans a Bioshock movie update. The writer noted that he has to be careful about what he says but praised Netflix and said the streamer was excited about the project before the strike and has maintained that interest after the strike.

“You have to measure your words, or you’ll start to see a laser pointer at my forehead from the Netflix legal,” Green stated. “Netflix has been amazing about it. They were excited about it before the strike, they’re excited about it now, post-strike. Yes, I got called, the, ‘How’s it coming along?’ the minute the strike was over, ‘You about ready … ?’ Been meeting regularly with Francis Lawrence and his team to refine a draft to go back in. We’re all optimistic. We all love it. It’s a great big sprawling nightmare world we wanna see real. So, here’s hoping. I would love to have an update for you soon.”

Is this the first time a Bioshock movie has been in the works?

This isn’t the first time that a Bioshock film has been in the works, with a previous attempt at adapting the film having been tried in 2008. That film was supposed to be helmed by Rango director Gore Verbinski; however, things ended up not working out. Verbinski was quite vocal on the film’s main issues, as he wanted an R-rated film but couldn’t get the financial support for such a rating.
