A new Poor Things trailer for the Emma Stone-led period comedy from director Yorgos Lanthimos has been released. The film is set to release on December 8, 2023, from Searchlight Pictures.
“From filmmaker Yorgos Lanthimos and producer Emma Stone comes the incredible tale and fantastical evolution of Bella Baxter (Stone), a young woman brought back to life by the brilliant and unorthodox scientist Dr. Godwin Baxter (Dafoe),” the official synopsis reads. “Under Baxter’s protection, Bella is eager to learn. Hungry for the worldliness she is lacking, Bella runs off with Duncan Wedderburn (Ruffalo), a slick and debauched lawyer, on a whirlwind adventure across the continents. Free from the prejudices of her times, Bella grows steadfast in her purpose to stand for equality and liberation.”

Poor Things is directed by Yorgos Lanthimos from a screenplay written by Tony McNamara, based on Alasdair Gray’s novel of the same name which is a reimagination of the Frankenstein story. The project also reunites Lanthimos and McNamara with Stone after previously working together in the acclaimed dramedy The Favourite.
Joining Stone are Willem Dafoe as Godwin Baxter, Mark Ruffalo as Duncan Wedderburn, Ramy Youssef as Max McCandless, Jerrod Carmichael as Harry Astley, Christopher Abbott as Sir Aubrey de la Pole Blessington, Margaret Qualley as Felicity, and Kathryn Hunter as Swiney.
