According to Deadline, Oscar winner Sam Rockwell and Oscar nominee Kumail Nanjiani have signed on for the leading roles in the upcoming dark comedy titled A Guy Walks Into a Bar. Since the project was able to obtained a SAG-AFTRA Interim Agreement, it will be allowed to begin filming in New Jersey later this year should the actors’ strike last until then.
What to expect in A Guy Walks Into a Bar?
A Guy Walks Into a Bar is directed and produced by Gary Fleder from a screenplay written by Jumanji: The Next Level scribe Scott Rosenberg. Nanjiani is set to portray a “mild-mannered new father,” who befriends Rockwell’s character described as a “charismatic yet mysterious man at a bar.” However, Nanjiani’s character will soon suspects him of concealing a troubling secret.
In addition to starring, Rockwell and Nanjiani will also served as a producer and executive producer, respectively. The film is executive produced by Erica Steinberg, Matthew Goldberg. R. Wesley Sierk III, John D. Straley, and Joseph Panebianco. Producers are Rosenberg, Mark Fasano, Nadine de Barros, and Jina Panebianco.
Before appearing in A Guy Walks Into a Bar, Rockwell will first star in Matthew Vaughn’s star-studded spy movie Argylle and in John Krasinksi’s fantasy comedy IF. As for Nanjiani, he will be lending his voice to the character of Mack in Illumination’s newest animated movie Migration. He has also joined the cast of the sequel to 2021’s Ghostbusters: Afterlife.
