The Marvels opening box office projections

The Marvels Early Box Office Projections Fall Far Short of Captain Marvel

The Marvels is projected to make $50-75 million at the box office during its opening weekend, putting it significantly behind 2019’s Captain Marvel.

According to Box Office Pro, The Marvels is currently projected to make $50-75 million when it opens in the United States on November 10, 2023. In total, the movie is currently eyeing a domestic total falling somewhere between $121 million and $189 million.

Captain Marvel made $153.4 million during its opening weekend, giving it the record for having the highest opening weekend for a female-directed film (2023’s Barbie then beat it when it opened to $162 million). In total, Captain Marvel grossed $426.8 million at the domestic box office and $1.128 billion at the worldwide box office.

Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, meanwhile, opened in February 2023 to $106.1 million before it went on to make $214.5 million in the United States and $476.1 million. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 made $118.4 million when it opened in the United States in May 2023. The James Gunn-directed movie made $359 million domestically and $845.6 million globally.

Sony Pictures Animation and Colombia Pictures’ Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse debuted at $120.7 million in June 2023. The movie’s domestic total came in at $381.3 million while the worldwide total was $690 million.

What is The Marvels about?

“Carol Danvers aka Captain Marvel has reclaimed her identity from the tyrannical Kree and taken revenge on the Supreme Intelligence,” the official synopsis reads. “But unintended consequences see Carol shouldering the burden of a destabilized universe. When her duties send her to an anomalous wormhole linked to a Kree revolutionary, her powers become entangled with that of Jersey City super-fan, Kamala Khan aka Ms. Marvel, and Carol’s estranged niece, now S.A.B.E.R. astronaut Captain Monica Rambeau. Together, this unlikely trio must team-up and learn to work in concert to save the universe as The Marvels.”

Starring Brie Larson, Teyonah Parris, and Iman Vellani, the Nia DaCosta-directed The Marvels releases on November 10, 2023, from Marvel Studios.
