Deadpool 3’s Shawn Levy believes Taylor Swift has “the makings of a hell of a director” and compared her instincts to Steven Spielberg‘s.
Levy, who is helming Marvel Studio’s Deadpool 3, appears in Swift’s All Too Well: The Short Film, which the infamous singer and songwriter directed. While Levy couldn’t speak about his experiences on the music video’s production because of the ongoing actors strike, he did comment on Swift’s directing capabilities
Speaking with Entertainment Weekly, Levy said, “Taylor has not consulted me about upcoming directing projects, but I think she has the makings of a hell of a director.”
He continued, “Spielberg was on the set of a movie he produced that I directed, called Real Steel, and I said to him, ‘How do you know it’s the right shot?’ His answer was, ‘The way you see it, that makes it right.’ I feel like that’s something Taylor Swift has figured out really well, because that’s about trusting your instinct.”
Swift has not yet directed a feature film; however, Variety reported in 2022 that she’ll make her feature directorial debut for Searchlight Pictures with an original script she wrote. Swift also won two Best Directing MTV Video Music Awards for 2020’s The Man and 2021’s All Too Well: The Short Film.
Are Taylor Swift and Shawn Levy working together on Deadpool 3?
While the casting has not been confirmed by Marvel Studios at this time, rumors have circulated online for months suggesting Swift may be portraying Dazzler, an X-Men character who also happens to be a world-famous pop star, in Deadpool 3. Production on Deadpool 3 is currently suspended because of the actors strike, though the movie currently has a May 3, 2024, release date from Marvel Studios.
Swift’s new concert film, Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour, meanwhile, opens in United States theaters today, October 13, 2023.
