According to Film Ratings, Amazon Studios’ upcoming Saltburn movie has officially been given an R-rating by the MPAA for “strong sexual content, graphic nudity, language throughout, some disturbing violent content, and drug use.” This doesn’t come as a surprise since director Emerald Fennell’s feature directorial movie Promising Young Woman was also R-rated. The 2020 movie won Fennell her first Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay.
Saltburn had its world premiere at the 2023 Telluride Film Festival. The psychological thriller drama is currently slated to arrive in select theaters on November 24, followed by its wide release on December 1.
What will Saltburn be about?
“Struggling to find his place at Oxford University, student Oliver Quick finds himself drawn into the world of the charming and aristocratic Felix Catton, who invites him to Saltburn, his eccentric family’s sprawling estate, for a summer never to be forgotten,” reads the synopsis.
Described as a beautifully wicked tale of privilege and desire, Saltburn is written and directed by Fennell. The film stars Barry Keoghan, Jacob Elordi, Rosamund Pike, Richard E. Grant, Alison Oliver, Archie Madekwe, and Carey Mulligan. This marks the latter’s second collaboration with Fennell following Promising Young Woman.
The film is produced by Fennell, Margot Robbie, and Josey McNamara. Fennell recently collaborated with Robbie in Greta Gerwig’s live-action Barbie movie, where she appeared as Barbie’s pregnant best friend Midge.
