Mr. and Mrs. Smith: Amazon’s Donald Glover Series Delayed to 2024

Due to the ongoing Hollywood strikes, Amazon Studios has officially delayed the premiere date for Prime Video’s forthcoming spy comedy series Mr. and Mrs. Smith. The comedy stars Golden Globe winner Donald Glover and Emmy nominee Maya Erskine. Originally scheduled for a November 2023 release, the series is now scheduled to make its debut in early 2024.

In addition, a brand new photo from Mr. and Mrs. Smith has also been released, featuring a new look at Glover’s John and Erskine’s Jane. The latter was initially set to be played by Phoebe Waller-Bridger, who exited the project due to creative differences.

What to expect in Mr. and Mrs. Smith?

“Meet the Smiths: Two strangers, John and Jane, who have given up their identities to be thrown together as partners – in espionage and in marriage,” reads the synopsis. “Matched by a mysterious agency, each episode follows them on a new mission and new milestone in their relationship. When the cracks begin to show through, they must fight to stay together. Because in this marriage, divorce is not an option.”

Mr. & Mrs. Smith is a reboot series, based on Doug Liman’s 2005 action comedy of the same name. Joining Glover and Erskine are Michaela Coel, Parker Posey, Wagner Moura, John Turturro, and Paul Dano.

The series is co-created and executive produced by Glover and Francesca Sloane, who are both serving as showrunners. The project is part of Glover’s overall deal with Amazon Studios. Executive producers are New Regency’s Yariv Milchan and Michael Schaefer and Wells Street Films’ Jenny Robins.

The original film was penned by Simon Kinberg and helmed by Doug Liman. It centered on an upper-class married couple who are surprised to learn that they’re both assassins at competing agencies and have been assigned to kill each other.
