Since its Sundance premiere, A24’s romantic drama Past Lives has been speculated as an awards season frontrunner. And unlike its fellow contenders, the cast and crew can now begin their awards season campaign despite the ongoing strike.
According to Deadline, A24 — which is not a part of AMPTP — has received a SAG-AFTRA interim agreement for Celine Song’s feature directorial debut film. This waiver allows the Past Lives cast, including Greta Lee, Teo Yoo, and John Magaro, to attend awards-season events. Lee, Yoo, and Magaro are potential contenders for Best Actress, Best Actor, and Best Supporting Actress, respectively.
What is Past Lives about?
“Nora and Hae Sung, two deeply connected childhood friends, are wrested apart after Nora’s family emigrates from South Korea. 20 years later, they are reunited for one fateful week as they confront notions of love and destiny,” reads the synopsis.
Past Lives is written and directed by Celine Song in her feature directorial debut, with David Hinojosa, Christine Vachon, and Pamela Koffler serving as producers. The film stars Greta Lee (Russian Doll) as Nora, Teo Yoo (Leto) as Hae Sung, John Magaro (The Big Short) as Arthur, Choi Won-young (Sky Castle) as Nora’s dad, Jonica T. Gibbs (Twenties) as Janice, Ji Hye Yoon as Nora’s mom, Min Young Ahn as Hae Sung’s mom, and more.
Past Lives is now available on digital.
