Acting legend Ian McKellen has starred in a litany of high-profile films. As the actor ages, however, he has no plan on stepping down from his career just yet.
McKellen has no plans for retiring just yet
Speaking to Variety, McKellen, 84, said that he’s aware that he may have to step down eventually, but has no plans to do so anytime soon.
“Retire to do what,” McKellen asked. “I’ve never been out of work, but I’m aware that any minute now something could happen to me which could prevent me from ever working again. But while the knees hold up and the memory remains intact, why shouldn’t I carry on? I really feel I’m quite good at this acting thing now.”
McKellen’s history as an actor is long and storied. Throughout his acting career, McKellen has been the recipient of seven Laurence Olivier Awards, a Tony Award, and a Golden Globe Award. He’s also been nominated for several Academy Awards, BAFTAs, and Emmy Awards.
Up next for McKellen is a starring role in the 2023 period thriller film The Critic, which is based on the 2015 novel Curtain Call by Anthony Quinn.
