It looks like the world is still buying Barbie tickets. You can blame Barbenheimer hype or wanting to see a feel-good movie this summer. Well, the theatrical screen is about to get even bigger, with Barbie getting rereleased for IMAX with never-before-seen footage featured.
When is the Barbie IMAX release date?
Greta Gerwig’s comedy film is this summer’s must-see. It’s already the high-grossing movie of 2023 and has reached $1 billion at the global box office. Just when you think the Barbie craze has simmered, Deadline reports the Mattel Inc. doll will get the IMAX treatment. Enjoy seeing Margot Robbie, Ryan Gosling, and many other talented actors for one-week IMAX screenings starting on September 22.
If you choose to see the laugh-out-loud comedy again, IMAX won’t be the only reason to give it another viewing. Stay after the credits for never-before-seen footage selected by Gerwig herself.
”The worldwide enthusiasm for Barbie has been overwhelming, humbling, and deeply moving,” said Gerwig in a statement. “So many Barbie fans went on this journey with us, and we can’t thank them enough for supporting the film and sharing their Barbie experience in theaters, across social media, and out in the world. We made Barbie for the big screen, so it’s a thrill to be able to bring it to IMAX, the biggest screen of all. And as a special thanks to Barbie fans, we’re excited to share a little bit more of our cast and crew’s incredible work by adding special new footage we hope audiences will enjoy.”
Warner Bros. Domestic Distribution Boss Jeff Goldstein and International Distribution Boss Andrew Cripps mentioned the excitement still lingers for Barbie. Six weekends later, audiences are still buying tickets for the summer flick. And you better believe the Kens dance sequence will look epic on the IMAX screen.
What’s Another Way You’ll Soon Be Able to Watch Barbie?
Next month, movie theaters won’t be the only venue where you can see Barbie. On September 5, this year’s trending film will be available to rent or buy on demand. Because this is a Warner Bros. movie, you can also expect it to stream on Max sometime in the fall. With Barbie getting the rerelease treatment, it shows the phenomenon of Greta Gerwig’s movie is far from over.
