Disney CEO Bob Iger says that Disney+ will begin cracking down on password-sharing for the popular streaming service beginning next year.

In a statement made during the company’s Q2 earnings call on Wednesday (via TheWrap), Iger confirmed that they would be “exploring ways to address account sharing” and trying to find the best ways for people to share accounts with friends and family.
Iger said that later this year, the platform’s terms of service would be updated to reflect that and that in 2024, they will begin “tactics to drive monetization.” It’s unclear if Hulu will also be cracking down on password-sharing, but reports also suggest that may be the case as well.
“We are actively exploring ways to address account sharing and the best options for paying subscribers to share their accounts with friends and family,” he said. “Later this year, we will begin to update our subscriber agreements with additional terms and our sharing policies. And we will roll out tactics to drive monetization sometime in 2024.”
The move comes shortly after Netflix released its Q2 earnings last month and noted that it saw 5.89 million new subscribers join after they implemented their own password-sharing crackdown earlier this year.
Alongside cracking down on password-sharing, Disney also announced on Wednesday that it would be increasing its prices, as well as introducing ad-supported options in Europe and Canada, as well as offering a brand new, ad-free bundled subscription for Disney+ and Hulu beginning on September 6 that will bundle both options together for $19.99/month.
