The new Wonka movie will sit alongside Roald Dahl’s Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and the 1971 adaptation starring Gene Wilder called Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory.
Wonka is an upcoming musical fantasy movie following a young Willy Wonka and his adventures before opening the world’s most famous chocolate factory. Timothée Chalamet will portray the famous chocolatier in a movie directed by Paul King, who has previously helmed the two Paddington movies.
Journalist Emily Zemler attended a launch event for the Wonka movie trailer, which the director attended. King said he wanted to make something that could “sit alongside” the Roald Dahl book the character originated from. Wonka is also meant to be a companion to the 1971 film.
