In a recent interview at the JW3 Speaker Series, Benedict Cumberbatch confirmed that he is scheduled to film “some Marvel capers” next year, teasing his Doctor Strange return after over a year since the theatrical release of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.
It’s currently unclear what Marvel Studios project the actor will be a part of, but fans speculate that it might be for Avengers: The Kang Dynasty, which is slated for a 2026 release. However, there’s also a chance that it might be a project that will address Multiverse of Madness’ mid-credits scenes involving Charlize Theron’s Clea.
Doctor Strange’s MCU History
The Oscar nominee first made his Marvel Cinematic Universe debut in Scott Derrickson’s 2016 film Doctor Strange, which saw Dr. Stephen Strange become the sorcerer supreme. So far, he has appeared in six Marvel Studios movies, including Avengers: Infinity War and Spider-Man: No Way Home.
Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness was directed by Sam Raimi. It also starred Elizabeth Olsen as Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch, Chiwetel Ejiofor as Karl Mordo, Benedict Wong as Wong, and Rachel McAdams as Christine Palmer, Xochitl Gomez as America Chavez, and more.
Cumberbatch will next be seen in Netflix’s film adaptation of Road Dahl’s The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar from Wes Anderson. The acclaimed British actor will also star in two drama features, including The End We Start From and The Book of Clarence.
