Wes Anderson may have just released Asteroid City into theaters, but the iconic director is already preparing for his next film, which will be an espionage film featuring a familiar face.
What do we know about Wes Anderson’s next movie?
Speaking to French outlet LeMonde (via World of Reel), Anderson briefly teased his next film, which he says “will be about espionage” and a father-daughter relationship and will also have a dark tone. Most importantly, however, Anderson said that the film will star Benicio del Toro, who the director said will be “in every shot” of the movie.
“My next feature film will be linear, with Benicio del Toro in every shot,” said Anderson. “I can’t tell you much more than that except that it will be about espionage, a father-daughter relationship, and, let’s say, with a rather dark tone.”
Anderson and del Toro have a brief history of working together, with the actor having starred in Anderson’s last film, The French Dispatch, in one of the anthology’s stories. In the film, del Toro played Moses Rosentahler, an artist that’s imprisoned and strikes up a romance with guard Simone (played by Léa Seydoux).
While not too much is known about Anderson’s next movie, it was reported earlier this year that Michael Cera had already been cast in the film. Up next for Anderson will be The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar, a short film based on the eponymous short story in Roald Dahl’s 1977 collection The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar and Six More. That project is set to be released on Netflix sometime this year.
