Director James Mangold has talked about his unmade Star Wars Boba Fett movie.
Mangold has a wide variety of movies in his filmography. From superhero films like Logan to biographical dramas like Ford v. Ferrari, there seems to be no genre he cannot pull off. His next movie is Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, which he is making with Lucasfilm. However, he was once in talks to contribute to another of Lucasfilm’s IPs.
Mangold has “more than flirted” with the idea of creating a Star Wars movie centered on Boba Fett. This would have been a one-off Spaghetti western movie in the style of Sergio Leone’s filmography. However, the idea was later turned into the Disney+ series The Book of Boba Fett.
He also pitched a film similar to The Ten Commandments, which would be about the dawn of The Force. “It is basically, for fans, a kind of religion. What is it to have found this power and not even understand what it is?”
What is the next Star Wars project?
The next Star Wars project is Ahsoka, a Disney+ miniseries that will consist of eight episodes. It will premiere on August 23, 2023.
