The Super Mario Bros. Movie producer Shigeru Miyamoto took to Twitter to share his gratitude to the fans who have supported Universal Pictures’ animated film adaptation of Nintendo’s popular video game franchise. Miyamoto is the Nintendo game designer best known for creating a number of hit video games including Mario and The Legend of Zelda.
“The Super Mario Bros. Movie is the first film with which Nintendo was directly involved in production,” Miyamoto said in the video. “We feel very fortunate that so many people around the world have watched this movie. Thank you all so much. We hope you’ll continue cheering for Mario’s team.”
In addition, Illumination’s Chris Meledandri also expressed his appreciate for the overwhelming response that the studio’s latest animated movie has received. So far, it is currently the highest-grossing movie of 2023, with a worldwide gross of over $1.3 billion at the box office.

Who’s the Voice Cast?
The film featured the voices of its all-star cast including Chris Pratt as Mario, Anya Taylor-Joy as Princess Peach, Charlie Day as Luigi, Jack Black as Bowser, Keegan-Michael Key as Toad, Seth Rogen as Donkey Kong, Fred Armisen as Cranky Kong, Kevin Michael Richardson as Kamek and Sebastian Maniscalco as Spike.
The Super Mario Bros. Movie was directed by Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic (Teen Titans Go!) from a screenplay written by Minions: The Rise of Gru scribe Matthew Fogel. It was produced by Chris Meledandri for Illumination and Shigeru Miyamoto for Nintendo.
