Michael Cera and Aubrey Plaza have been friends for years, but during their time filming Scott Pilgrim vs. the World together, they almost became husband and wife.
Cera and Plaza nearly tied the knot in Las Vegas
Speaking to Rolling Stone, Cera revealed that he and Plaza nearly got married as a joke while filming the cult classic film in 2010. According to the actor, the pair thought up the idea of getting married and then getting divorced right away and being able to jokingly call each other their ex-husband and ex-wife, respectively.
“Well, we were driving through Vegas, and we almost just spontaneously took a detour and got married,” said Cera, before revealing that “I think the idea was to then get a divorce right away, so we could call each other ‘my ex-husband’ and ‘my ex-wife’ at like … 20.”
Cera and Plaza were dating at the time of the filming, according to Plaza, and although the couple didn’t end up tying the knot, Cera’s story is still bound to get a few laughs.
Earlier this year, it was revealed that the pair, as well as most of the original cast of Scott Pilgrim vs. the World, would be reuniting to star in an anime adaptation of the graphic novel for Netflix.
Cera and Plaza will reprise their roles as Scott Pilgrim and Julie Powers, respectively, as will Mary Elizabeth Winstead as Romana Flowers, Satya Bhabha as Matthew Patel, Kieran Culkin as Wallace Wells, Chris Evans as Lucas Lee, Anna Kendrick as Stacey Pilgrim, Brie Larson as Envy Adams, and Alison Pill as Kim Pune.
