Wes Anderson has shared a few details on his next movie after Asteroid City.
Anderson has become heralded as a cinematic auteur over his career. Beginning with Bottle Rocket in 1996, he has gone on to direct hits like The Grand Budapest Hotel, Moonrise Kingdom, and Fantastic Mr. Fox. His newest film, Asteroid City, arrives in theaters this week. Anderson has recently shared details on another project he has in the works.
“I finished writing a new film, which was right before the writers strike happened,” Anderson tells Cinema Teaser (via World of Reel). “If everything goes well then we’ll be shooting that one this fall. This time around I just have three main characters in the film, that’s it. A few side characters, but the crux of the story focuses, actually, on two main characters […] I’ve long delayed this project, for years, but it recently spoke to me again. Ever since my daughter was born, seven years ago, my wife said that I would end up doing a father-daughter story. I wasn’t sure what other stories I could tell, but then this film came along. It’ll be a story about a father and his daughter.”
This would be a departure from his recent films like The French Dispatch and Isle of Dogs, which were filled with many characters.
When does Asteroid City come out?
Asteroid City releases on June 16, 2023, by Focus Features.
