According to Empire (via /Film), the Mission: Impossible 8 production has been temporarily shut down due to the ongoing WGA writers strike. This delay comes on the heels of director Christopher McQuarrie confirming that he has completed the post-production work on Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One just in time for its highly-anticipated debut this July. It remains unclear if this latest filming setback would also affect Dead Reckoning Part Two’s scheduled theatrical release date in 2024.
Who’s Involved in Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning?
Written and directed by Christopher McQuarrie, Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning is divided into two parts, with the first one arriving on July 12, 2023, and the second movie premiering on June 28, 2024. Joining Tom Cruise and Hayley Atwell in Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning is returning franchise alums Rebecca Ferguson (Doctor Sleep), Simon Pegg (Ready Player One), Ving Rhames (Pulp Fiction), Vanessa Kirby (Hobbs & Shaw), and Henry Czerny (Ready or Not).
The upcoming films will introduce Mission: Impossible newcomers Shea Whigham (Joker), Pom Klementieff (Guardians of the Galaxy 2, Avengers: Infinity War), and Esai Morales (La Bamba, Titans), who will replace Nicholas Hoult (Mad Max: Fury Road) for the villain role. Dead Reckoning Part Two will also include Holt McCallany, Nick Offerman, Janet McTeer, and Hannah Waddingham.
