Disney+ Removal

Disney+ Reverses Decision to Delist Movie, Removal List Still Being Finalized

Following the reveal of what titles would be part of the upcoming content removal from Disney+ at the end of this month, Disney has gone back on its decision to remove one particular movie that was originally on the list.

What movie is not part of the upcoming Disney+ removal?

Following backlash involving its planned removal, Deadline is reporting that Disney has said that the documentary Howard will remain on the service. The documentary chronicles the life of famed gay Disney lyricist Howard Ashman and his major role in creating some of the company’s most memorable songs of the 90s.

The timing of the planned removal was met with backlash, as this month’s live-action The Little Mermaid remake features many of Ashman’s lyrics, while LGBTQ+ Pride Month is set to begin on June 1.

“The list of titles coming off of Hulu and Disney+ next week is still being finalized,” a Disney rep told the outlet. This response suggests that other content could be added to or removed from the list before things begin to get taken off the streamer on May 26.

During the same call where the removals were initially announced, the company announced that it would be adding Hulu content to Disney+ by the end of the year in order to make a “one-app experience,” though in some regions where Hulu isn’t available, Hulu’s programming is already available on Disney+ under the Star banner.
