According to Variety, Oscar nominee Maria Bakalova has signed on for the lead role in upcoming action comedy My Masterpiece. The project hails from producers Sylvester Stallone and Braden Aftergood through their Balboa Productions banner.
The Bulgarian actress gained international recognition for her acclaimed performance in the mockumentary film Borat Subsequent Moviefilm, which gave Bakalova her first Oscar nomination. She recently made her Marvel Cinematic Universe debut for voicing the character of Cosmo in James Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, which is now in theaters worldwide.
What is My Masterpiece About?
My Masterpiece will be directed by Cassandra Brooksbank. It will serve as her feature directorial debut after years of experience in commercials and music videos. The film is written by Jason Hellerman. Production will reportedly commenced this coming fall in Canada.
“It follows a hitwoman hellbent on dismantling an unfair system within her industry, but she gets stuck on the second floor of an office building after she takes vengeance on a corporate overlord,” reads the synopsis. “That means she has to fight her way through fellow murderers and her past to ensure justice prevails. If all goes well, this might just be her masterpiece.”
