Tom Hiddleston and Mark Hamill are set to star in a new film adaptation of Stephen King’s The Life of Chuck, according to a recent report from Deadline.
What is The Life of Chuck about?
The adaptation will come from director Mike Flanagan (The Haunting of Hill House, Doctor Sleep), who will write and produce the upcoming project alongside Trevor Macy. The film will be based on a short story from Stephen King’s 2020 anthology book If It Bleeds.
The story of The Life of Chuck is split into three acts presented in reverse chronological order. It tells the story of Charles Krantz, beginning with him witnessing his own death and moving back throughout his life.
According to Deadline, the script for the series has been in the works for several months. Hiddleston will play the lead role of Charles Krantz with Hamill playing Albie. Deadline’s sources note that the film will “draw tonally” from classics like Stand By Me, The Shawshank Redemption, and The Green Mile.
Hiddleston is best known for his portrayal of Loki in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, a role he is set to reprise sometime in the future in the second season of the hit Disney Plus series Loki. Mark Hamill, of course, is best known for his role of Luke Skywalker in Star Wars. Most recently, he appeared in Netflix’s live-action adaptation of Sandman and will also star in The Machine and Netflix’s House of Usher.
For King, this will be yet another adaptation of his work, to which the legendary author is no stranger. Tons of his stories have already been adapted into either films or television projects, including Carrie, The Shining, Pet Sematary, It, Stand By Me, The Shawshank Redemption, Cujo, and more.
