According to Deadline, Marvel stars Paul Rudd (This is 40) and Tessa Thompson (Creed) along with Oscar nominee Amy Adams (Disenchanted) have signed on for the leading roles in the upcoming comedy titled The Invite. Rudd and Adams are set to portray married couple Joe and Angela who have find themselves getting an invite to their high-spirited neighbors’ orgy.
Who’s Involved in The Invite?
The Invite will be directed by Little Miss Sunshine filmmakers Jonathan Dayton and Valerie Faris from a screenplay written by Rashida Jones and Will McCormack, based on 2020’s Spanish movie Sentimental. This marks Dayton and Faris’ latest collaboration with Rudd, whom they worked with on Netflix’s Living with Yourself series which featured the Ant-Man star in dual roles. It will be produced by David Permut and FilmNation Entertainment.
“It tells the story of Joe (Rudd) and Angela (Adams), who after 15 years of marriage, find that their relationship is in a rut. Desperate to have a conversation that isn’t focused on their marital woes, Angela invites their boisterous neighbors, Kayla (Thompson) and Shane, over for cocktails,” reads the synopsis. “Joe, irritated at having to engage with this disruptive couple, plans to use the occasion to confront them; however, both he and Angela get far more than they bargained for as sparks fly and they discover Shane and Kayla are hosting weekly orgies and have an invite of their own to offer.”
Rudd recently reprise his fan-favorite role as Scott Lang/ Ant-Man in Marvel Studios’ Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania. He will next be seen in the upcoming third season of the acclaimed Hulu comedy Only Murders in the Building. As for Thompson, she recently starred as Bianca Taylor in Michael B. Jordan’s feature directorial debut Creed III.
Last year, Adams reprised her leading role as Giselle in Disney+’s Disenchanted movie, after over 15 years since the theatrical release of the first film. Her next projects including the film adaptation of Nightbitch and the political dramedy Average Height, Average Build, which serves as a reunion project with Adam McKay.
