According to Deadline, Mackenzie Davis (Blade Runner 2049, Terminator: Dark Fate) has signed on to star opposite James McAvoy in Universal Pictures and Blumhouse’s forthcoming English remake of Speak No Evil, based on the 2022 Danish thriller movie of the same name. It is scheduled to arrive in theaters on August 9, 2024.
Davis is no stranger to the horror genre, as she previously starred in 2020’s supernatural thriller The Turning. She also gained recognition for her performances in shows such as Halt and Catch Fire and an episode of Black Mirror. Her most recent acting projects are last year’s HBO Max miniseries Station Eleven and the Netflix anthology series Love, Death + Robots.
The Speak No Evil remake will be written and directed by The Woman in Black filmmaker James Watkins. The film will be produced by Jason Blum, with Paul Ritchie, Christian Tafdrup, Jacob Jarek, and Bea Sequeira executive producing.
The original movie was directed by Christian Tafdrup, who also co-wrote the screenplay with Mads Tafdrup. The story centers around two families who met while on vacation in Tuscany. What was supposed to be an idyllic weekend slowly starts unraveling as the Danish families try to stay polite in the face of unpleasantness.
