In a recent interview with SFX Magazine, Infinity Pool actress Mia Goth opened up about A24’s upcoming horror sequel MaXXXine, which is currently in production. Goth recalled the first time she read the script, revealing that she immediately thought of the sequel’s story as “a superhero movie” due to her character’s strength and determination.
“Maxine, as a character, has come a long way. She’s a survivor, she’s gone through a lot,” Goth explained. “When we meet her again, in this new world that she’s in, she’s really fought for everything that she has, and she’s not about to give that up. She’s going to fight for what she has. She’s a badass. There’s a strength to her. And she’s a really proactive, determined, focused woman. She goes after what she wants, and she’s not really going to take no for an answer.”
Besides MaXXXine, the Emma actress will also next be seen in Marvel Studios’ upcoming Blade movie starring opposite Oscar winner Mahershala Ali. Circulating rumors also suggest that Goth might be portraying Dracula’s daughter, Lilith.
MaXXXine is written and directed by Ti West. In addition to West returning to direct, Mia Goth will reprise her role as Maxine Minx — the only survivor of the elderly Pearl’s rampage in the first movie. “The film follows Maxine, after the events of X, as the sole survivor who continues her journey towards fame, setting out to make it as an actress in 1980’s Los Angeles,” reads the synopsis.
Joining Goth are Kevin Bacon (Tremors, They/Them), Elizabeth Debicki (The Crown), musician Moses Sumney (The Idol), Michelle Monaghan (Nanny), Bobby Cannavale (The Watcher), Lily Collins (Emily in Paris), award-winning artist Halsey, and Giancarlo Esposito (Breaking Bad).
The upcoming film is the third and final entry in the X trilogy, which also includes the prequel Pearl. It is produced by A24, West, Jacob Jaffke, Kevin Turen, and Harrison Kreiss, with Goth set as an executive producer.
The first film originally starred Jenna Ortega, Brittany Snow, Scott Mescudi/Kid Cudi, Martin Henderson, and Owen Campbell, while the prequel featured David Corenswet, Tandi Wright, and Matthew Sunderland. This makes Goth the only cast member who has appeared in all three X films.
