John Wick: Chapter 4 director Chad Stahelski has left the door open for another entry in the franchise to come, noting that he and star Keanu Reeves are open to the idea of it.
Speaking during a recent appearance on The Hollywood Reporter’s Behind the Screen podcast series, Stahelski said that it’s “flattering” that both the studio and audiences want more entries in the film. While he needs time to digest things, he did tease that he and Keanu could always end up getting the itch to do another film.
“It’s very flattering for them to come back and say, ‘We want more,’ and it’s not just a cash grab. It’s legitimately the audience wants more,” said Stahelski. “I think we all need that little bit of time to go, ‘Whew. Let’s see what’s next.’ … If Keanu and I, a few months from now sit down at a whiskey bar in Japan again and go, ‘Yep, we’ll never do another one of those,’ and then all of a sudden go, ‘Yeah, but I got an idea.’ We’re open to it.”
Stahelski’s are a bit more positive than the ones he made about a month ago, teasing that they were giving the franchise a rest for now. They also sound similar to comments made by Reeves himself, as the star recently said that he “never say never” about returning for a fifth film.
John Wick: Chapter 4 is now available in theaters.
