A sequel to the 2022 film Fall is officially in the works, according to a recent report from Deadline.
The sequel comes following the surprise international success of the film after it landed on Netflix. The report mentions that producers Tea Shop Productions and director Scott Mann are discussing ideas for a new film, which will likely once again feature a group of characters becoming stuck at a terrifying height.
The original film premiered in August 2022, and starred Grace Caroline Currey and Virginia Gardner as Becky Connor and Hunter Shiloh, respectively, two friends who become trapped after climbing a decommissioned TV tower in the desert. The film also starred Mason Gooding and Jeffrey Dean Morgan, although it’s unclear if any of the film’s stars will be reprising their roles as of now.
After launching to moderate success in the box office, Fall became a surprise hit overseas. According to Deadline, Fall has been the second most-watched film in the United Kingdom on Netflix, trailing only Idris Elba’s Luther: The Fallen Sun. The success of the film also comes without any real marketing push behind it, with Tea Shop Productions’ co-founder James Harris crediting its success to word of mouth.
“We were pleasantly surprised by how everybody has such a visceral reaction to it,” Harris said. “It is one of those movies where word of mouth really helps.”
“It’s an easy thing for people to pick up on a streamer,” said Tea Shop Productions co-founder Mark Lane You can see the concept in the poster image and we’re finding that if people try it, they are getting hooked instantly.”
