According to Deadline, Netflix is currently in final negotiations to acquire the film adaptation rights to Chris Hicks’ short story titled I Am Not Alone. Oscar winner Jessica Chastain (Mama) is attached for the leading role in the sci-fi horror drama, with Lovecraft Country director Misha Green signing on as its director and writer.
Netflix defeated four other major studios in an intense bidding competition for the project, with a reported high-six-figure deal. In addition to starring, Chastain will also be producing through her Freckle Picture banner with Green and Kelly Carmichael.
I Am Not Alone will follow the story of a mother of a young daughter, whose life changes when she started seeing creatures caused by her unbearable migraines. It is described as “a grounded sci-fi story about a mother forced to defend her family against a threat only she can see.”
Additional producers include Genre Films’ Simon Kinberg and Audrey Chon, Bread & Circuses Entertainment’s Craig Flores, Scott Glassgold, and Peter Katz. This marks Kinberg’s second collaboration with Chastain after working together in The Martian, Dark Phoenix, and The 355.
“I’m a massive fan of Misha’s work, and been friends with Craig for years, so when I got sent this story and heard they were involved, I absolutely flipped out,” Kinberg said in a statement. “Misha’s vision for it is unlike anything I’ve ever seen. And getting to work with Jessica again makes it even dreamer.”
