With rumors continuing to swirl around Jason Momoa’s future in the DC Universe, the actor recently took to social media to celebrate a meeting with Warner Bros. Discovery and those behind the DCU.
In a recent post to his Instagram stories, Momoa filmed himself coming out of a meeting, mentioning that four years ago he was excited to leave a meeting, and four years later, he’s equally happy. Later in the video, Momoa says he got some good news and expresses his love for DC Studios’ James Gunn and Peter Safran, as well as Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav.
“Four years ago, I had the jeep out front,” Momoa said in the video.”Y’all remember four years ago? I was screaming, wasn’t I? Screaming when I left Warner Bros. Everybody ready? Yahoo! Four years again. It’s a mystery, baby. I’ve got some really good news. Great news with Warner Bros. Amazing.”
While it’s not exactly known what the actor is referring to, fans have taken it to mean that Momoa will continue to exist in the DCU in some capacity. Previously, reports late last year surfaced that suggested Momoa was going to step down as the DCU’s Aquaman, and instead play the antihero Lobo. Momoa himself added fuel to the fire by teasing that his “dream” project was in the works with James Gunn, but didn’t reveal much else.
The report from last year noted that Momoa could potentially wrap up playing the underwater hero after he stars as Aquaman in the upcoming sequel Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, which releases on December 25, 2023. After that, Momoa could transition to the character of Lobo, a foul-mouthed alien that works as an interstellar mercenary and bounty hunter. While Lobo has not been utilized much in any live-action properties, his outsider character does fit with the type of characters Gunn has worked with in past comic book films, including the members of the Guardians of the Galaxy and the Suicide Squad.
