Ocean’s Eleven Prequel Sets Production Start Date

According to the Film & Television Industry Alliance, production on Warner Bros.’ forthcoming untitled Ocean’s Eleven prequel, which will star Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling, has been scheduled to begin this coming March 6. The listing also states that the project is a remake of the original 1960 film Ocean’s 11.

The untitled Ocean’s Eleven prequel will be directed by Jay Roach from a screenplay written by Carrie Solomon. The project is being produced by Gary Ross, Josey McNamara, Michelle Graham, Tom Ackerley, and Olivia Milch.

So far, Robbie and Gosling are the only two confirmed cast members of the latest heist comedy, which will take place in 1960s Europe. This marks the two A-list stars’ latest collaboration since filming Greta Gerwig’s highly-anticipated live-action Barbie movie which will arrive in theaters later this year.

The original 1960 film was directed by Lewis Milestone. It starred the members of the famous Rat Pack, including Frank Sinatra, Sammy Davis Jr., Peter Lawford, and Joey Bishop. The film was also led by Emmy and Golden Globe-winning veteran actress Angie Dickinson.

In the early 2000s, Steven Soderbergh directed the remake of Ocean’s Eleven which also featured a star-studded ensemble led by George Clooney, Brad Pitt, and Matt Damon. Due to its box-office success, it was followed by three more installments, including the spin-off Ocean’s 8, which featured Sandra Bullock as Debbie Ocean, the sister of Clooney’s Danny Ocean. The franchise currently has a combined worldwide gross of over $1 billion at the box office.
