2019 saw the Fast & Furious franchise receive its first spin-off film in the form of Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw. While not much has been stated about a potential sequel, a producer on the film did recently provide an update.
Producer Kelly McCormick, who most recently had production credits on 2022’s Violent Night, was asked about a potential sequel. According to McCormick, she and director David Leitch (her husband) would “love to” make another film, but that “there’s no conversations at this time” about one.
McCormick also touched on the fact that they were trying to set up a few things for potential spin-off films, including parts for Kevin Hart and Ryan Reynolds, both of whom appeared in the original movie in cameos.
“I do feel like there were a lot of seeds planted to try to create a spinoff in a way that included a Kevin Hart and a Ryan Reynolds and sort of all that kind of stuff,” McCormick told ComicBook. “And that was intentional but not necessarily because we had plans in mind, just because it would be fun to have different players for them to play with if anybody or we wanted to go for it in a different way. So, you know, I don’t know, I mean Dwayne’s a really busy guy and you know, he would be the one to motivate all of that. So, you know, we’re ready if he wants to, and until then, he’s just dominating, so all power to him.”
Hobbs & Shaw was released in August 2019 and starred Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham as they reprised their roles from the Fast & Furious franchise. The film was another box office smash for the Fast & Furious franchise. The film earned more than $750 million at the box office, despite receiving mixed reviews from both critics and audiences alike.
