A drama featuring Emmy winner Brendan Gleeson and Golden Globe winner Colin Farrell is one of the most interesting additions to the HBO Max schedule for December 12-18.
On Tuesday, December 13, the streaming service will add Banshees of Inisherin to its available content. Oscar winner Martin McDonagh (Seven Psychopaths, Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri) directed and wrote the movie. In addition to Gleeson (Harry Potter films) and Farrell (The Batman), Banshees of Inisherin stars Barry Keoghan (Eternals) and Kerry Condon (Better Call Saul), among others. The movie is produced by McDonagh, Peter Czernin, and Graham Broadbent. Banshees of Inisherin premiered at this year’s Venice Film Festival, where it won the Golden Osella for Best Screenplay award. The film then hit theaters on October 21 and grossed more than $19 million at the box office during its theatrical run.
“Set on a remote island off the west coast of Ireland, the film follows lifelong friends Pádraic and Colm, who find themselves at an impasse when Colm unexpectedly puts an end to their friendship,” reads the synopsis. “A stunned Pádraic, aided by his sister Siobhán and troubled young islander Dominic, endeavors to repair the relationship, refusing to take no for an answer. But Pádraic’s repeated efforts only strengthen his former friend’s resolve and when Colm delivers a desperate ultimatum, events swiftly escalate, with shocking consequences.”
