Xavier Gens, of The Divide and Frontiere(s), is set to direct The Crucifixion, based on a script by Chad and Carey Hayes (The Conjuring).
“Based on true events,” the film concerns a priest who is jailed for the murder of a nun on whom he was performing an exorcism. An investigative journalist strives to determine whether he in fact murdered a mentally ill person, or if he lost the battle with a demonic presence.
The Conjuring and Annabelle‘s Peter Safran is on board to produce.
Lotus Entertainment will handle international sales and introduce to buyers at AFM.
Lotus’ Jim Seibel said: “Peter and the Hayes brothers have an amazing track record in the genre space, and we’re excited to be teaming up with them. We felt that a smart, edgy thriller like The Crucifixion combined with this amazing creative team had all the right ingredients to be a global box office hit.”
