THE PUNISHER
Marvel can’t use Spider-Man, but The Punisher is fair game.
There have been three Punisher movies and none of them have managed to get the character right on the big screen. The Hulk had a similar problem until The Avengers movie. Maybe what The Punisher needs is a similar opportunity to shine as part of an ensemble cast.
For those of you who aren’t familiar with The Punisher, Frank Castle was a former soldier who snapped when his wife and children were murdered in the crossfire of a mob war. As The Punisher, Castle uses lethal force against any and all violent criminals. The Punisher isn’t a superhero and most of the actual superheroes view him as a murderer who isn’t any better than the people that he kills.
The Civil War comic played with the interesting idea that The Punisher idolizes Captain America despite their vastly different way of doing things. A partnership between Cap and The Punisher is doomed to failure, but it could be really entertaining to see that play out onscreen.
