Box Office Results: Smile Continues Reign While Lyle, Lyle Crocodile & Amsterdam Disappoint

Smile continued its strong box office run with a stellar second weekend of $17.6 million, down just 22% from its opening frame, according to Deadline. That total was enough to dub the Park Finn flick “the second-best hold ever for an R-rated horror movie” behind Jordan Peele’s Get Out. Domestically, Paramount’s horror pic has earned $50 million. Worldwide, Smile has accrued $40 million from 61 markets, meaning the pic is smiling all the way to a stunning $90 million global haul.

Meanwhile, the family film Lyle, Lyle Crocodile wasn’t snappy enough to draw big crowds, earning just $11.5 million from 4,350 theaters. While David O’Russell’s star-laden comedy Amsterdam disappointed with $6.5 million from 3,005 screens.

This weekend sees the release of Halloween Ends, which should slice through the relatively weak competition.
