According to Deadline, Oscar nominee Benedict Cumberbatch has officially signed on to star opposite Jodie Comer in the upcoming apocalyptic thriller drama The End We Start From. The Doctor Strange star was initially attached only as an executive producer when the project was first revealed.

In addition to Cumberbatch, Mark Strong (Shazam!), Joel Fry (Cruella), Gina McKee (My Policeman), and Nina Sosanya (His Dark Materials) have also joined the cast. Production is currently underway in London.
The first official photo for The End We Start From has also been revealed, offering us our first look at Jodie Comer’s character as she holds on to her newborn child.
“Set amid an environmental crisis that sees London submerged by flood waters, the feminist survival story focuses on a young family torn apart in the chaos,” reads the synopsis. “Comer will play a mother who, with her newborn child, tries to find a way home, navigating the most challenging and apocalyptic start to motherhood.”
The End We Start From will be directed by Mahalia Bello from a screenplay by Alice Birch (Succession), based on Megan Hunter’s novel of the same name. It is produced by Leah Clarke, Adam Ackland, Liza Marshall, Sophie Hunter, and Amy Jackson. Executive producers are Benedict Cumberbatch for SunnyMarch, Jodie Comer, Anton’s Sébastien Raybaud and Cecile Gaget, and Eva Yates.

Comer is best known for her acclaimed performance as Villanelle in BBC One’s thriller dramedy Killing Eve, which just wrapped up its fourth and final season. She will next be seen in HBO’s sex therapy series Big Swiss, which is produced by Adam McKay.
