According to The Hollywood Reporter, Mary Elizabeth Winstead (Birds of Prey) and Xochitl Gomez (The Baby-Sitters Club) have been tapped for the leading roles in the upcoming sci-fi thriller film titled Ursa Major, which hails from XYZ Films. The pair will be playing a mother and daughter who are always on the run from hunters.

Ursa Major will be directed by filmmaking duo and brothers Jonathan and Josh Baker from a screenplay written by Patrick Somerville, Colleen O’Brien, and Katie French. It will be produced by Somerville and David Eisenberg for Tractor Beam, along with John Finemore, Mason Novick, Allen Fishcher, and Brian Steinberg.
“The film follows Charlie and Natalie, a mother and daughter fighting for survival on an Earth-like planet, hiding from a group of relentless hunters with the added threat of an imminent and deadly storm approaching,” reads the synopsis. “But Natalie, now a teenager, has begun to question her mother’s decisions, her explanation of who they are, how they got here, and what they need to do to survive.”

Winstead is no stranger to the thriller genre as she previously starred in Death Proof, Faults, 10 Cloverfield Lane, Gemini Man, and Kate. Meanwhile, Gomez recently made her Marvel Cinematic Universe debut in Sam Raimi’s Doctor Stranger in the Multiverse of Madness.
