Martin Scorcese’s Killers of the Flower Moon Could Be Delayed to 2023

Originally assumed to be releasing later this year, a recent report from Deadline suggests that Martin Scorcese’s highly anticipated next film, Killers of the Flower Moon, could be moved back to 2023.

In Deadline’s latest edition of The Dish, they note that recent speculation surrounding the film has hinted that instead of premiering in time for the awards race in 2022, it could instead premiere next year at the 2023 Cannes Film Festival in May.

This would delay the film by as many as several months, as the movie was initially rumored to arrive in December of 2022. However, it seems as if Apple — who will distribute the film alongside Paramount Pictures — is looking to give it a full theatrical run, according to the report. In this case, a proper showing at a major film festival would be the best first step.

Killers of the Flower Moon will once again reunite Scorsese with long-time collaborators Leonardo DiCaprio and Robert De Niro. Joining them are Jesse Plemons, Lily Gladstone, Tantoo Cardinal, Jason Isbell, Sturgill Simpson, Louis Cancelmi, William Belleau, Tatanka Means, Michael Abbott Jr., Pat Healy, Scott Shepherd, and more.

Set in 1920s Oklahoma, the plot explores the serial murders of members of the oil-wealthy Osage Nation, a string of brutal crimes that would later become known as the Reign of Terror.
