The Academy Award-nominated Yeun will join a cast that already includes Pattinson, Naomi Ackie, Mark Ruffalo, and Toni Collette. It’s unclear just who Yeun will be playing, however, as the only known details on the film is that Pattinson is set to play the lead, and the film is set to be based on the Edward Ashton novel Mickey7.

For Yeun, this will be his second time working with Bong Joon Ho, as he played K in the 2017 film Okja. This will also be the next film for Yeun following a starring role in Jordan Peele’s upcoming horror film Nope. Yeun burst onto the scene with his portrayal of Glenn Rhee on AMC’s The Walking Dead, a role he played for six years.

The untitled film is being written and directed by Bong Joon-ho. Producers are Bong for Offscreen, Dede Gardner & Jeremy Kleiner for Plan B, and Dooho Choi for Kate Street Picture Company.

Published last year, The Mickey7 novel centers around an Expendable, which the synopsis describes as “a disposable employee on a human expedition sent to colonize the ice world Niflheim. Whenever there’s a mission that’s too dangerous—even suicidal—the crew turns to Mickey. After one iteration dies, a new body is regenerated with most of his memories intact. After six deaths, Mickey7 understands the terms of his deal…and why it was the only colonial position unfilled when he took it.”

This also marks Pattinson’s first project following the most recent theatrical release of The Batman, which saw his debut as DC’s newest version of the Dark Knight. He is expected to reprise the superhero in the forthcoming sequel, which was just recently announced during CinemaCon.
