According to Deadline, Oscar winner Halle Berry has officially signed on for the leading role in Alexandre Aja’s next horror thriller film titled Mother Land. Production is scheduled to start sometime next year.
“We’re so thrilled to be working again with Halle and Alex,” Lionsgate’s Production President Erin Westerman said in a statement. “Halle is a force on screen – she’s the perfect person to convey the psychological terror of this mother trying to protect her family. And who better than Alex to ratchet up the tension. Powerhouse producers 21 Laps are going to deliver an elevated thriller that will keep audiences on the edge of their seat.”

Mother Land will be directed and produced by Alexandre Aja, who’s best known for his work on Piranha 3D, The Hills Have Eyes, and Crawl. Written by Kevin Coughlin and Ryan Grassby, the film follows a mother and her twin sons as “they get tormented by an evil spirit for years,” reads the synopsis. “When one of the boys questions whether the evil is real, the family’s sacred bond is broken, and it becomes a fight for survival.”
The film will be produced by Shawn Levy, Dan Cohen, and Dan Levine through their 21 Laps banner, with Berry and Holly Jeter set as executive producers.
