“Well, I’m retiring,” Carrey said in a recent interview with Access, before being asked if he was serious. “Well, probably. I’m being fairly serious, yeah. It depends, it depends. You know, if the angels bring some sort of script that’s written in gold ink that says to me that it’s going to be really important to see, I might continue down the road, but I’m taking a break. I really like my quiet life, and I really putting paint on canvas, and I really love my spiritual life, and I feel like… and this is something you might never hear another celebrity as long as time exists, I have enough. I’ve done enough, I am enough.”

Carrey has been a legend in the world of Hollywood, having starred in a variety of memorable roles throughout his career. Recently, however, Carrey has been taking fewer and fewer roles, opting to live a more quiet life. Should he retire, his last two films will have both been in the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise where he was applauded for his boisterous portrayal of Dr. Robotnik.

Sonic the Hedgehog 2 will once again feature the voice of Parks and Recreation vet Ben Schwartz as the titular speedster. Joining him are returning cast members James Marsden (Westworld), Tika Sumpter (Ride Along), Natasha Rothwell (Wonder Woman 1984), Adam Pally (The Mindy Project), and Jim Carrey (Kidding).

“After settling in Green Hills, Sonic is eager to prove he has what it takes to be a true hero,” reads the official synopsis. “His test comes when Dr. Robotnik returns, this time with a new partner, Knuckles, in search for an emerald that has the power to destroy civilizations. Sonic teams up with his own sidekick, Tails, and together they embark on a globe-trotting journey to find the emerald before it falls into the wrong hands.”

Additional cast for the sequel includes franchise newcomers Shemar Moore, Colleen O’Shaughnessey, and Idris Elba, with the latter two set to respectively voiced the roles of Tails and Knuckles.
